This brief book is intended to review and focus upon the evolution of the North Atlantic Alliance from the end of the Cold War to the present day. The aim is to increase and enhance understanding of, and assess the predictability of, the nature, extent, and limits of the Alliance’s strategy in the coming decades. To reach this end, the following four questions will be explored in detail.: A) Why has the Alliance survived despite the ending of the ColdWar and the reason for its existence having been eliminated? B) What are the main factors, aspects and impacts of its huge transformation process? C) What is the new or current rationale behind, or the raison d’être of, its continuity at present? D) What is the future of the Alliance in the light of the emerging, perhaps growing, rift between the United States and Europe?
