The warm summer’s breeze cascaded across the mountains, bringing with it the fresh scent of wild flowers. The clear sky was blanketed with millions of stars and the full moon hung above the mountain peaks shining its soft light across the trees, casting long shadows down the gentle slops.
The summer song of frogs and crickets sang out in an orchestra in tempo with one another. While an occasional hoot of an owl screeched out into the night. He loved this time of the year, with the mountains full of life, but tonight he knew one would be sacrificed.
He observed her from a distance. She paced back and forth with her arms crossed over her chest. She was extremely upset with him, he could tell.
She wore a white cotton summer dress that hugged every luscious curve. He reveled in the knowledge of having known each and every one of those curves intimately. He didn’t need to see her face to know she was scowling. Her lip would be protruding into a pout. He always enjoyed kissing those wonderful full lips of hers.
A cruel smile spread across his face as he stealthily crept up behind her in the thick foliage, closing the distance between them. Unfortunately, he hadn’t seen the twig under his foot until it was too late. Startled at the loud cracking sound she whirled towards the direction from which the noise had come from, only to see a dark shadow in amongst the trees.
She saw the dark figure walking towards her and was momentarily paralyzed with fear. “Who’s out there?” She cried out.
He felt foolish. “It’s just me,” he replied lamely.
She wasn’t expecting him to come from that direction and it made her all the more angry that he was sneaking around that way. Just what the hell was he up to? She thought. She had asked him over so they could talk. He had promised to marry her, it didn’t matter that it made her skin crawl when he touched her. She could shut the sex part out of her mind. She needed his money, because she spent every penny she had of her own money when she bought her house.
“What the hell are you doing scaring the shit out of me that way?” She demanded.
He shrugged his shoulders, “Sorry.”
She was extremely upset with him. She received his letter telling her that he didn’t want to see her anymore. He said he was going to make his fortune by marrying the boss’s daughter, and that there was no room for her in his future.
She didn’t care what he did with his future; it was hers she cared about. She wanted to be a big movie star. She knew she was drop dead gorgeous and that her looks could get her an audition, but it would be her talent that would make her famous. She wasn’t about to let him stop her from realizing her dream. She needed money desperately and she deserved more, considering the things he made her do.
Her soul felt tainted over her part in those terrible deeds, the bastard owed her. “Congratulations on your wedding, asshole. But before you enter into the wonderful bliss of holy matrimony, you and I have some unfinished matters to discuss.” She said smugly.
He slowly shook his head in disappointment. He was hoping she would be more compliant about the situation. At the very least, he was hoping for sex before he killed her.
He looked her up and down, smiling at her frustration. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I gave you your share, and you blew it on this stupid house,” he said pointing back at her home.
Her temper flared so she took a swing at him. Her fist landed directly across his jaw, snapping his head back with it. “Don’t take me for a fool. I know you’ve a hell of a lot more money than that puny bit you gave me. I also know all the shit you’ve pulled over the years. Somehow I doubt the new wife to be, and her father would want you in the family if they knew just what a real piece of shit you really are,” she challenged.
