Thomas meets Katherine –
The water was absolutely still. While lost in the beauty of the moment, I noticed that there was one ripple quietly moving out from my dock. It was a silent ripple that spread from the dock in a perfect circle out over the lake. I had not moved at all, yet this ripple was there. I did not look behind me, but I sensed warmth and a presence behind me. Then, softly, I heard slow, light, footsteps on the dock behind me. The dock moved just a little with each step, and one ripple after another spread out across the still lake. As the warmth grew nearer, a shiver moved down my spine. The shiver was warm. It filled me with a sense of calm and serenity, but at the very same moment, it also filled me with a sense of excitement. The two emotions, while apparently so opposite, swept over me with equal intensity. I did not dare to turn my head to look behind me. I knew it was a woman, the soul of a woman, but the intensity of this soul was something that I had never felt before. It was something that I could not have contemplated even in my deepest state of silence. As she neared, my heart raced, and I put the coffee mug down on the arm of the chair. I could feel her so close to me, and the sense of anticipation was overwhelming. I could not wait till she came around my chair and I could finally see her.
