The prosecution showed all of the videos they had collected from the school that showed what appeared to be Charlie praying. Charlie simply looked into the faces of the jurors and smiled.
Finally it was time for Charlie to take the stand. When the general approached Charlie he asked; “Charlie, you keep telling everyone that you don’t pray yet we see you clearly praying on these videos. How do you explain that?”
“I was not praying, sir.” Charlie replied.
“Then what were you doing Charlie?” Asked the general
“I was talking to my mother! I talk to my mom when I wake up, I talk to my mom before school, and I talk to my mom before I go to sleep at night.”
“Charlie, I thought your mother was dead. I thought she was killed just a short time ago.”
“Mister principal-general sir, my mom was not killed, my mom was murdered by the gestapo at a checkpoint because she lost her purse and her national I.D. card! Just because my mother’s body died does not mean that my mom is dead! My mom is very much alive sir!” Charlie proclaimed with authority!
A silence fell over the room.
“Please continue Charlie.” General Killerman said.
“I talk to my mom and I feel her so strongly every day. Just because her body is dead doesn’t mean that she is.” Charlie replied.
“Can you prove to us that your mother is still alive and still helping you Charlie?” Asked the general.
“My mom helps me with my studies. So I get a lot of A’s, and she helps me find things. No matter what it is, if I ask my mom to help me find something I’ve lost, I always find it quickly. Is there something you have lost that you cannot find sir? If there is I will ask my mom tonight to help you find it. And you will find it sir. How about you your honor? Do you have someone, oops! I mean something you want to find but cannot find on your own sir?”
The judge sat there for a moment pondering the boy’s words then replied; “Yes son, there is someone that I cannot find whom I have been searching for, for a long time now. If you don’t mind my asking, how did you know that I was looking for someone?”
“I’m not sure sir. I opened my mouth and those were the words that came out. I did not think before I spoke” answered Charlie; “If you would like, I will ask my mom to help you find him tonight sir.”
