About the Author
If I were to ask the average person on the street what the word blindness means to him or her, it would not be at all surprising if in their response I would hear negatives like helplessness, hopelessness, pity, dependency, incompetence, and the like. Sadly, these mournful qualities have crossed the minds of many people down through the ages when they conjure up in their minds thoughts as to what it would be like to be blind. The federation believes that with proper nurturing, training and the right opportunities, blind men and women are able to take their place proudly and confidently alongside their sighted members of society. The organization is dedicated to encouraging the blind everywhere to seek equality, opportunity and security in the same measure as the sighted. Its members espouse the philosophy that given these attributes, blindness can be reduced to a characteristic or mere inconvenience.
In the following memoirs I wish to convey to my readers that dogged determination and iron will to succeed in my own life. I hope to encourage others to press on in spite of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, even though one just happens to be blind.
