Return to the Ranch

As they pulled off the road to the ranch you can look as far as you can see and not see all of the 2000 acres. Looking out the window of Kurt's truck at the grazing land. Sam thought about how it must have been in her grandfather's day. Dusty trails and large cattle herds that they had to drive to Miles City,Montana. Which was the nearest city to her grandfather's ranch. Having to go through the long cold winters and the heat from the droughts of the summer.The cry of the coyotes at night still put chills down Samatha's arms. Maybe she would never get use to it but she loved it here. The river and plains of waving grass made it so beautiful,and worth everything. When Kurt isn't looking at her she glances over at him.Thinking how it would be nice to be special to him. As Samatha saw her grandfather come out of the door,happiness came over her. He hadn't changed at all. He was just as she remembered him. Max stood over 6 feet tall and very stocky but not fat. His hair was graying but not all the way. His eyes were still bright blue. The smile on his face was what she remembered most.Even under the tanned skin his cheeks were still red. His gruffness came from his Irish blood. When he became mad about something. Everyone knew to stay clear of him until he had  time to cool down.He was set in his ways but he had controll over his ranch.He had made  a success of it for many years.Before the truck came to a stop she was out and running to the man with open arms waiting for her,She stumbles into them.Seeing Sam run to him made it all right. This was what all the hard work was for. One day this ranch would all be hers.She was all he had left now.
