About the Book

Footsteps in the Rearview is an anthology filled with the typical manifestations of life's issues centered around love and hate, seeking what you are fleeing, supplication to those who would deny, acceptance instead of rejection.  These creations are given life and magnified through the lenses of classism, racism, and placism.  Footsteps is the non-linear documentation of a brotha's examination of his past by reviewing the writings of his past as he sought to maintain his identity.  African-Americans of all ages, any station and both genders will see themselves in two or more of (simply)G's writings.  Honest to a fault, problems inescapable to many Blacks are explored in a language fluent in sincere anger and fluid in its exploration for universal truths along life's emotion continuum.

About the Author

(simply)G was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, which he affectionately refers to as "Detoilet."  The first twenty years of his life gave him a bounty of timeless insights into the highlights and lowlights of African-Americans.  For all of Detroit's good (riverfront fireworks, Belle Isle, Greektown, local sports) he despised the city's negative side (urban blight, wanton street violence, incredibly high auto insurance, a public school system walking the green mile, horribly unreliable bus service, and a pervasive drug culture reducing life to hits on a glass pipe).  The resulting negative balance left him with a distaste for city life, along with an incessant urge to leave Detroit as soon as possible.

Between a plethora of urban drug dealers and haters, a cadre of insensitive ex-girlfriends, an insatiably selfish ex-wife, a sordid assortment of openly racist Okies, a clan of covertly racist Minnesotan cops overwrought with 'roid rage, the limitless dangerously stupid urban peers, the wife who now brings him joy and restored his long-lost loving side, one could easily amass a collection of writings worthy of print.  Here they are, written from the front row, at times in caustic words, at other times in a language rife with insight and sensitivity.  Reading from one page to the next, a reader would love, hate, relate and debate each encountered passage, but the remaining composite impression is that of a man who learned to meet, in the words of Kipling,  "Triumph and Disaster/And treat those two imposters just the same."

(simply)G is an English Literature graduate of the University of St. Thomas, located in St. Paul, MN, and he also holds a Master of Education degree from Marygrove College, located in Detroit, MI.

(simply)G resides in Charlotte, NC with his beautiful wife, precocious step-daughter and highly-energetic son.
