Prologue
In the beginning:
The Idea to write this book was inspired by the advice of a friend. After years of sharing my success pro’s and woe’s, she suggested that I write a book how to overcome some of the dilemmas that we as parents face in the upbringing of our children. Thanks Joyce.
I believe, as the scriptures say, that if we could be successful, as a nation, in *training our children in the way in which they should go that when they are older they shall not depart from those ways. Proverbs 22:6
At age 29, I found myself alone, raising four children. This in itself set the stage for a very challenging road ahead. In 1997 my children’s father was tragically killed, this left me alone to be both mother and father all while trying to mother and father myself. My parents nor my grandparents were actively in my life, due to their by personal choices to be free of responsibility or by God’s choosing, either way, I was left to learn, grow and find out about the things that life had to offer all alone.
My children were ages 15,14,10,5 at the time of their father’s death and aside from the obvious challenge of raising four children, I worked full time, sometimes two jobs just to make ends meet, took classes at the local university and regularly attended most of our church gatherings. Talk about needing a calgon moment.

The material contained in this book was compiled from personal experience in teaching my own children, as well as “divine intervention” from the Holy Spirit. I believe that as you journey through the pages of this book you will gain valuable tools and information to train your own children, no matter what age, as well as have a greater understanding and appreciation for the challenges that you are faced with on a daily basis in raising your children. I have included a variety of scenarios based on my personal real life experiences to help you along the way. (WARNING)!
