What's All this Astrology About Then?
Well it’s all about understanding the various links between signs,
planets and houses and what they can reveal about what makes you tick.
It’s rather like a detective mystery and all the clues have to be found and unravelled, or like an onion with lots of different layers.
CLUE 1 is your Birth Sign. This is the zodiac name we give to each month of the year and we always start with the sign of Aries because it’s Spring and a time of new beginnings.
Each sign has a special picture called a ‘glyph' and behaves in a different way. You’ll find out how in the top part of the cream pages and a list of their correct order on the last of these blue pages.
CLUE 2 is the Planets and these are various bodies in the sky which make up our galaxy and each one has a different purpose in your life. They too have different glyphs and they are the middle part of the cream pages with a list of their correct order also on the last of these blue pages.
CLUE 3 is the Houses, These are the divisions of the 360 deg. sky circle which makes up your Chart. There are 12 houses each of 30 degs. and they are the bottom part of the cream pages. The houses always go in the same order - anticlockwise from 1 to 12, but the signs and planets can be found anywhere in this circle.
Astrology is very complicated and needs a lot of study involving times, places and specialised calculations to be totally accurate but the purpose of this little book is just for you to have fun without bothering with all that at the moment. So on the onion principle I’ll be giving you the first peeling!!
I’ve kept all the information as simple and basic as possible for you to enjoy. If later on you want to go further there are lots of excellent textbooks around to teach you all the full astrological details so you can learn even more about yourself and your friends.

SIGNS
On a chart each sign has a particular symbol or ‘glyph’ and this is the one for ARIES....
It’s the first Fire sign and it’s Masculine.
Aries always likes to start new things and be a bit ahead of the game.
Signs show you HOW you do things.
PLANETS
The planet across the page is the SUN - its not really a planet but gets included as such.
It takes a whole year to go through all the signs so it stays 1 month in each sign.
This is the symbol for who you are outwardly. It falls in the month you were born and where it is in your chart will help you discover what kind of characteristics are the most important for you to deal with. Are you bold? Do you hold back?
Planets show you WHAT kind of things you do.
HOUSES
The House across the page is what is called the First House - it’s always found on the left hand side of your chart and gives details about how you present yourself to others and how they see you.
Houses are WHERE you do the things you do.

About the Book
An easy, non mathematical, fun, interactive introduction to Astrology for young people everywhere. This book offers simplified instructions and tools for constructing and understanding birth charts. Included are examples, colourful illustrations and sample chart forms to work with. The book’s unique feature is that the basic explanations of the Astrological Sign/Planets/House combinations are made through an interactive mix and match format of split pages created by the reader. This enables them to select their own particular birth patterns and begin to develop an awareness of how their own energies flow and opens up an exciting journey of personal discovery. The youngsters who ‘test ran’ the manuscript enjoyed its ‘detective’ approach and felt encouraged to pursue their interest in Astrology.
About the Author
Jackie Barrow(DMS Astrol) has studied a range of holistic and spiritual disciplines for many years, but her first love is Astrology and after she earned her Mayo School of Astrology Diploma she taught and practiced professionally. She is now retired and divides her time between Somerset and Canada. She believes Astrology can give self understanding and empowerment when applied appropriately. As there is very little in the market place for young people she offers them this book as a non mathematical and interactive first step introduction to the subject in the hope that they may be inspired and encouraged to further explore its fascinations.
