The author in 2005 at age 83, photo in background is author at age 17. Marcena is the mother of nine (no adoptions, no twins), grandmother to 19 and great-grandmother to 5 -- and counting. Her life encompassed most of the twentieth century; thus she lived through, observed and participated in most of the major events of these years. Widely traveled -- touching down on all seven continents, she was also fascinated by the many scientific and intellectual changes taking place during these years.
