Disease You’re looking at a dead man Reality ceases to exist to me See in my short life I have made several mistakes, Th e last and fi nal one is taking my life as I speak to you today See I made that same mistake that many young black males make each and every day No strap, No glove, No Love is what I should have thought But instead I let my little do the thinking for my big So I got caught up Matter of fact I caught something But instead of being a man and facing my fears I’m hiding, Hiding behind a cold hard rock that I call my pride Unable to tell the people that I care about what I have How can I? A disease is not something you openly talk about It’s supposed to be a secret Held in the shadows Covered up And never to be exposed But as I learned when I was a young child For people to understand me I have to let them in So in a room full of friends, family, and even strangers I’m going to open up and share with you Th e secret that has me crying on the phone to my parents trying to explain.
