EMERGING
I honor the darkness, I honor the moon
I honor the place where the seed starts to bloom
It's under the earth where there is no light
That the seed is first nurtured to prepare for it's flight
It's dark where a baby first grows in the womb
A place without light that is much like a tomb
So when birthing a new place that's coming to light
I must honor the darkness, I must honor the night
The moon is my guide as I walk in this space
I honor her presence as I'm held in her grace
She tells me to trust her, to let go of the light
To walk in this darkness, to prepare for my flight
Something's evolving that's new, that's not seen
And after the darkness, the dawn starts to gleam
The cycles of life happen this way
From daylight to darkness and back to the day
Each must be honored, each has it's place
When living on earth and expanding in grace
The sun and the moon both offer their light
The sun in the daytime, the moon in the night.

When I sit in the silence I know who I am
The connection is awesome, I sense a grand plan
No need to hurry, to worry, to yell
The silence just whispers "All's well, all is well"
A deep peace enfolds me, my eyes become teary
The presence of God, I can feel, is quite near me
With each breath it rises from deep down inside me
It melts me, it holds me, it feeds me, it guides me
Without the silence I can only survive
With quiet and stillness I'm able to thrive.

About the Book
I have entitled my book "Emerging" as it embodies my journey into writing. In my early 50's, the desire to simplify my life and spend time in silence and stillness "emerged" from within me. As I followed my heart and stepped onto this quiet path, my writing began to flourish. I kept a journal over the next few years and wrote of my experiences.
This is a book of poetry written from my heart to yours. It speaks of my journey into silence and the variety of experiences that space offers me. It speaks of my "conversations with an angel" as I seek answers to my questions as I travel along life's path. It speaks of my relationship with nature and with the "heavenly bodies" - of the beauty, wisdom and love they offer me on my journey. And, finally, it speaks of my reflections on living and loving as I continue to explore and discover more of who I am.
The poems are beautifully illustrated by my friend, Rich, whose creativity helps bring them to life. This is a simple, reflective book which, I believe, offers a glimpse at the wisdom, comfort and love available to each of us everyday.
About the Author
Janis Maxham resides in Sarasota, Florida with her husband, John. They have three sons who all live nearby and who have enhanced their lives by adding two "daughters" and six grandchildren.
She has been on a "conscious" journey of spiritual discovery for 35 years and started writing poetry in 1992.
The illustrator, Rich Cain, lives in Waretown, New Jersey with his life-partner, Sharon. He has been an editor, graphic artist and electronic pre-press specialist for over fifteen years.
His cover design and illustrations have assisted in bringing this book "to life".
