The Human Ark

Alchemy and Astrology have been siblings since the beginning.  In order to go through the various stages of purification, one needed a system and a structure of the human being, and as each human being is unique, the form and structure of that system was also required to be unique, while remaining essentially the same for all.  The answer was the simple and straightforward system of Astrology that was the same for everybody, but could encompass every single human being that has ever walked upon the face of the earth.  Astrology gave the alchemists the means to comprehend the many facets of human nature, with both a practical and mythical foundation.  Therefore the physical and metaphysical could work together, be seen, understood and purified, creating the final result; an individual who had transmuted the impurities of the human condition, and was ready to take the ‘Great Work’ with the ‘Bread of Light’, and who would, through this experience, become one with God.

The twelve known vibrations of the modern zodiac represent the classic middle level of each sign and while this is highly relevant and important, it is not the whole picture by any means.  In fact there are three levels to each sign, the Apprentice, the Builder and the Master Craftsman.  The classic middle, ‘Builder’ vibration offers only a glimpse of the higher or lower directions that we can go as we take each step through the journey of our lives, and to understand the higher and lower levels of consciousness, nature and the Universe has furnished us with powerful archetypes to guide us.

We live in extraordinary times, with decisions that our parents and grandparents never had to make, and although these other archetypes have always been a part of our Astrological make-up, they have re-emerged at a time when they are able to help us through the current global climate.  The higher and lower levels help us to understand why we make certain choices and where those choices originate from within us.  They give us the opportunity and potential to grow as a result and herein lies an understanding of the alchemy and potential transformation that astrology can show us. 

If one takes the lower road, the joys of life are abandoned in exchange for struggle and hardship, and the light at the end of the tunnel will seem much farther away.  Similarly, the higher road will seem just as daunting and alien to us if we don’t know where it leads. It takes us from the safe and the known into the unknown, from the apparently tangible, to the seemingly intangible world of light.  We have to take the journey as a whole to become the Master of our own self and of our destiny.

Alchemical Astrology is an interpretation of the dance of the Universe; a way of learning and discovering more about ourselves, who we are, and why we do the things we do.  It is an ever-unfolding map, a blueprint of the heavens for our journey here on earth.  We grow as a result of knowing that both the enlightened and unenlightened are aspects of our being, and that we must understand and overcome one, in order to reach the other.  As we breathe in the life of this dance, we begin our relationship with the heavens, with ourselves and with each other.
