“She’s alive!” Winston called out triumphantly turning towards the doctor.
“That’s impossible,” Haywood muttered but seemed at a loss as to explain what was happening.
One of the machines began to beep more frantically than before and gave a strangled twitter as the monitor began to spark fizzle and finally died. The respirator pump gasped erratically before it fell into an eerie silence.
“What’s going on?” Stella asked as she was beginning to feel frightened.
“I don’t know. Perhaps it’s a power surge or something. I need some help in here!” Haywood said turning his head to call out into the corridor.
Silence fell down upon the side room and the lights began to dim.
“It’s okay Mavis everything is going to be okay,” Winston said oblivious to the fingers that were digging into his wrist.
“Daddy,” Stella said as she was beginning to tremble a little herself.
“Mister Green I don’t know what’s going on here but I can assure you that…” Haywood commented starring transfixed at the bed.
Suddenly Mavis sat bolt upright and her eyes flickered open.
“What did I tell you?” Winston said with tears of joy replacing those of grief.
“Oh my God!” Stella muttered in disbelief.
“Shit!” was all that Haywood could manage as he dropped his notes and clipboard onto the floor.
“He’s coming Winston he’s coming,” Mavis said with a wide smile despite the tube in her mouth.
“Mavis,” Winston gasped going weak at the knees.
“Sorry my love he’s coming and you can be a part of it,” Mavis said pulling the tube from her mouth.
“Who’s coming mother?” Stella asked suddenly feeling very cold.
“He is,” Mavis commented looking above her to the ceiling where the lights began to brighten again.
