Again I had to miss dinner, what had I done that was so wrong, I could not understand it, it was worse here, by the time Lizzy had come to bed, I had calmed myself down and pretended to be asleep. I didn’t want to speak to anyone encase I started to cry again and what if she didn’t know the truth about our mum, our beautiful loving mum. I missed her more than ever knowing she was never coming back.
Next morning my eyes were still swollen from the crying, I could hear my name being called it was Bumble, she was calling me to get down stairs.
As I approached the kitchen she shouted at me “eat that” she handed me last nights dinner just as I reached to take it she pulled the plate back took a deep breath then spat on it before thrusting it in my face. “Eat it or else” she snarled at me with that wicked glare on her face. I sat looking at the plate not even the absolute emptiness of my stomach could bring me to lift the fork.

About the Book
The Curtain Never Moved is a true story of how my childhood life was a happy, loving, secure environment, until my mother died at an early age of cancer. After her death, the life I endured was of mental and physical abuse from my father and his partner. Feeling so alone, unhappy, petrified and wondering would I ever survive the abuse I endured; afraid to face the next day knowing it would be no different than the one before; wondering would I be fed the next day and dealing with the hunger and fear; dealing with the abuse day in, day out, and wondering would I survive.
About the Author
My name is Jess Barker. I am married, with a grown up family, I am also a grandmother. We are a very close family and I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my grandchildren.
Due to ill health I am now retired. Unfortunately, due to my health, I have had to give up many of my hobbies such as gardening, crochet and needlework. Since, I have acquired my own personal computer and learnt the basics, and now spend a lot of my time on my computer. I am also a pet lover and have two little dogs whom are great company to me. I also love to read, My favourite author is Lena Kennedy, and it was her books that inspired me to write my own. Depending on my health, I would like to carry on and write more.
I am also a cancer survivor, and one day would like to write about my cancer survival, my experience, the treatment and life after cancer.
