Genesis 1, verse 4
4. After God spoke the light into creation, then God (the Trinity of God) saw the light, and they knew it was good. Then it says, God divided the light from the darkness. According to the Bible, there was darkness, and then the light, then all the other matter came later.
Some scientists claim that the original light is still with us in the universe. Therefore, the light in this verse is not our sun, but it is the light of the universe, separated from the darkness. . . I would like to mention the ‘String Theory” that Quantum Physics scientists have suggested. That everything is made of the most minute strings of light. The different sizes and vibrations of these circular light strings make up the material things we see in this world. According to this theory, everything is made up of light.2
Verses 10-12
10. God names the dry land “Earth” and the waters “Seas.” It is quite clear that now God is working on our planet (the planet he is making for us). . .
11. The Word of God is telling the earth to grow grass and herbs with seeds, and fruit trees that yield fruit with seeds in it. Seedless herbs and fruit were not in God’s plan, because they can not reproduce themselves. The God of Life is seeing to it that in His creation, life goes on. Re-creation (reproduction) is passed down through the seeds of each and every herb and fruit He tells the earth to bring forth.
12. And the earth does what The Word has said, apparently sustained only by earth’s waters and the spiritual/eternal light of God, because the stars, sun and moon have not been created yet. Then, when the herbs and fruit trees were created according to God’s Will. . .
Verses 14, 15
14. The Word of God speaks again. This time for the lights in the firmament that we can use for signs, seasons, days, and years. Our lives are lived by and in correspondence with these lights that were created so long ago. We have calendars to help us keep track of time and plan ahead by using these God-given lights. The plants, which had been previously created, did not need these lights to live and grow. These lights, apparently, were made for people.
15. And it happened. How awesome is that!
Verses 20-21
20. Let the waters bring forth . . . School children learn that the beginnings of life (animal life) began with/in the water. Even now, when our scientists explore the universe, the first thing they look for, anywhere, is water. For life as we know it requires water.
21. It seems that God went from the smallest creature to the largest mammal almost back to back. There have been a great many disagreements about how much time it took God to do this. Some say it took millions of years and some say it only took a few of our earth days. It’s quite clear, no matter how you look at it, that God did the creating. So what’s the problem? The problem is time itself. How long did it take? The answer? It took God no time at all.
God is not now, nor has He ever been (except in the flesh and blood body of Jesus Christ) bound by the time that we are bound by [see more about this in Chapter 3, and the Chapter on “Time”]. Those of us who have been born into time and are bound by that time until our physical death, have difficulty comprehending how God’s creation could happen outside the bounds of time.
So we argue about it.
Verse 26
26. This is the plan. To make man in the image of God. Now, the animals have the spirit of God [discussed on a previous page] but man will also have the creative mind and language. This is what will give the human being the edge over the animals and other creatures. And there is a reason for that: so the human can have dominion over all the other creatures of the sea and earth. [Let’s see. Dominion means “rule, sovereignty, jurisdiction, supremacy, command, mastery . . . Domain, empire, realm, territory, land, region.”4 Do you see where man is supposed to have dominion over man/woman? I don’t either.]
Genesis 2, Verse 5
5. So, God had done all the planting so far. It hasn’t rained yet, and God doesn’t have anyone to till the ground. [This threw me for awhile. Apparently the humans God created on the sixth day were hunters and gatherers--a nomadic people. Everything had been provided for them; they didn’t have to provide their own food. But God didn’t have a farmer1.]
A farmer stays in one place, plants seeds and harvest crops. The farmer is a working man. A man like this would plant seeds, till the ground, care for the growing plant, and harvest the crop; just like God does . . . By planting and harvesting food to provide more than he needs, the farmer, et. al. will be able to “think between meals.”2 This means he won’t have to always be looking for food. He can plant, tend, harvest and store his own. Now he’ll have spare time to put his imagination to work. (of course, every imaginative thought would be good, so far.)
Verses 15-16
15. This particular man was not supposed to just live off the herbs and fruits he found, but was to take care of the garden provided for him, and preserve it.
16. And God is very generous. He says the man can eat of any tree in the garden -- except . . .
[And from here the surprises of the Genesis story will continue to abound. May God be with you and guide you, as you travel this path to a more clear understanding of the Creation and Fall of Man.]

About the Book
If you have been confused about the message of the first few chapers of Genesis, or feel uncomfortable with current interpretations of these chapters, the book, "Binocular Vision" Featuring Genesis 1-5 and Genesis 6:1-6, may be of interest to you. This word-for-word interpretation of the first few chapters of the Bible tends to take the confusion out of God's Creation, how He did it, and how different groups of people happened. Allow yourself / your group to study this book and see if it doesn't put an end to the Creative (Intelligent) Design / Darwinism debate. Also pay close attention to the "Time" segment. Don't judge the book by its cover; you need to actually read (study) the entire Genesis account and "Time" to get a Spiritual and historical understanding of the Creation and mankind’s plight and progress. Great for individual study, group study, and discussion. Even though, for the Genesis study, the King James Version is readily available on the left side of the open book for your immediate reference, be prepared to check and re-check your own Bible regularly to affirm its actual message.
The author of "Binocular Vision" studied for 11 years to find the answers to something entirely different (acknowledged in the Introduction, parts of Geneses and the Letter) from the most common and current interpretations; but, when the book was finished it became clear that the Genesis account of the Bible holds answers to archaeological and anthropological questions as well.
“Binocular Vision” is for anyone who is interested in God’s Word, especially those who have found contradiction and confusion in the first few chapters of the Bible. Be prepared for some surprises. Here’s wishing you enlightening adventures in the world of Genesis.
About the Author
Dr. Green became a single parent in the mid 1970s and was packing eggs to support her two daughters when she decided to return to school. Earned a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Arts degree then, in 1995, finally completed the Doctor of Education degree. Experienced a two-way communication with the Lord in 1988 (see "Father, Forgive Me" in the Appendices). Became a certified lay speaker to serve in her faith. Was told by a campus ministry leader she couldn't speak the Gospel in front of an assembly unless she was under the authority of a man (and he provided scripture to "prove" it). Green found other pastors, groups and speakers who showed her scripture that freed women to serve the Lord at all levels. Developed and conducted a Bible study for women prisoners in South Dakota and other interested persons. For nine years, Green taught English as a Second Language and preparation for the GED in South Dakota, spent two years teaching at a Native American college in Nebraska, taught a high school alternative school for five years and is presently attending seminary through on-line classes. Green says, “I ask the Lord to go with me and guide me everyday at work, at study and at rest. I praise Him for making me aware and interested enough in His Word to have a look for myself.”
