About the Book

“The school that prays together stays together. After almost half a decade to substantiate these words, we are undaunted, undivided, and more formidable than ever as we seek to glorify His name and fulfill His mission.” This glimpse inside one of the nation’s top 50 Catholic Schools illustrates how an institution will flourish under God’s rule and guidance. We are in a partnership with God and our contract is to teach as He taught following the gospel message. “In a world where media attention is focused on radical and often anti-Christian issues, where personal agendas are the catalyst for the degradation and destruction of the moral and ethical backbone of our country, I embrace each new day in a Catholic Christian school where we begin our morning with two essential and fundamental truths: “The Lord’s Prayer” and “The Pledge of Allegiance.”

“He is here and in every school each day; the difference at Bishop T. K. Gorman Catholic Schools is that while others choose to exile Him, we exalt Him. We are not going gently into any good night; instead, we are marching onward as Christian soldiers to trumpet our message: One nation, one school, and one family under God, INDIVISIBLE.

About the Author

Laurie Simpson Turman holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Texas at Tyler. After teaching in the Tyler Independent School District for eight years, she followed God’s path for her life, which ultimately led to Bishop T. K. Gorman Catholic Schools. As Director of Student Services, she embraces each day as gift to work with a community of extraordinary educators, administrators, staff, students and families. This book is her way of saying “thank you” for this wonderful opportunity that so many in the work world refer to as a job. She prefers to call it what it is, a mission, and she invites you to join her in this blessed and meaningful mission trip. As a public school teacher, she would often try to create a secular angle to include a verse or biblical passage; sometimes as a journal entry or a discussion item when discussing Providence with regard to the early pilgrims and Puritans in her Junior English classes. There was always the fear that a parent might call to insinuate she was teaching religion, which would have been grounds for termination. Fast-forward to a place where we not only begin each class with a prayer, but seek opportunities to glorify God and utilize these lessons as teachable moments.
