A Mother’s Love

I carried you in my body,
and I felt your every kick.
I loved you from the beginning,
even the mornings I was sick.

As the months slowly passed,
my excitement steadily grew.
The time had finally come,
for me to give birth to you.

When they laid you in my arms,
I was proud as I could be.
To think I had carried,
this precious life inside of me.

I checked you over carefully,
to make sure nothing was wrong.
You chose that very moment,
to show me your lungs were strong.

In my arms I rocked you,
with such tenderness and love.
And I said a little prayer,
thanking God up above.

I remember your first word,
and the first step you took.
We’ve come a long way together,
with no instruction book.

The years passed by so quickly,
and then you were grown.
You found that special person,
and started a family of your own.

If you find you ever need me,
my help I’ll always lend.
Because a mother’s love is unconditional,
and it’s something that will never end.
