The Woman That Grew From The Leftovers

Her own body clock had awakened her at 6:00 am.  The house was quiet.  As was normal she walked to the girl’s room to check on them.  She opened the door and was about the scream out in terror until she came to the realization that her children were all in Shamis, Mississippi.

She could not remember a time when there was not at least one child in her house.  It felt strange.  She missed them.  She wanted to rub Toliver’s little peanut head.  She wanted to tickle Myla’s little belly.  They had been gone all of six days and she wanted them home.  Sitting on Mia’s bed she picked up the bottle of Love’s Baby Soft perfume she had bought her for her birthday and smelled it.  She told her mother that she felt like a big girl having her own bottle of perfume. Myla had opted for a make-up kit that year.  They were such girly girls.  They were sweet but rough when they had to be. She wondered how they were taking this whole thing.  Seeing their father again after all these years.  He’d turned their little world up side down leaving them.  Hopefully Arthur would spend some time with them alone and talk to them about what had happened.  Of coarse he would have to leave out a few things.  But she knew from her own life how important it was for little girls to experience the love of a father.

She’d wished she’d been there to see Arthur’s reaction to Toliver.  She didn’t think it was possible for anyone to look so much like her.  Toliver James Wyatt was her little man.  He knew nothing of this man called Uncle Arthur.  He was her funny little man.  Arthur Wyatt did not deserve to lay eyes upon him.  If his little plan had worked out her son would be with some sick greedy-assed rich snobs.  Probably being ignored while they enjoyed their ill-gotten gains.  She was even surprised that Arthur requested that she send Toliver along with the other children.  Maybe he had changed to some degree.  Maybe he could now see Toliver as a human being and not just some thing that he could get rid of and forget about.  Seeing him in the flesh, she hoped was a wake up call for him.
