Seasons of Life

There are three areas of appeal to man in life that keeps us hiding from God — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. The book of First John, chapter 2, verse 16 states:

“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Going back to the story of Adam and Eve, we can identify these three areas of appeal that became more desirable to Eve than the word of God.

Let us examine Genesis chapter 3, verses 1 to 6:

  “1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, Yea, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden.

  2 And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

  3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.

  4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die.

  5 For God does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

  6 And when the woman saw that the tree was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her and he did eat.”
