The author uses his twenty-seven year Coast Guard career and extensive experience in Southeast Asia to create a current time action-adventure novel that you must read

Palawan
C D Williams

A little under 250 pages with a nice tropical scene on the cover might lead you to believe that this was a fluffy little novel about romance in the South Seas. And that is just the point of the cover, to lure you into this rip-roaring thriller with Islamic terrorists and ‘Nam vets. Locals as diverse as the lush tropical jungle of the Philippines and Sin City aka Las Vegas add to a nice mixture here.

This is a great thriller that never once drags anywhere. The pace is quick, the novel is well laid out and the editing is better than most mass market paperbacks. The fact that Williams has pulled off a timely terrorist thriller with more pace and less verbiage than the mighty Tom Clancy is to be applauded.

This is a perfect novel for someone flying from the East Coast of the US to Vegas. A perfect travel novel that has enough to get you distracted but not enough to get turgid. I highly recommend this novel and feel almost intimidated that this is Williams’ debut.

The novel would make a perfect movie, as long as Williams could make sure the baddies stay the same. Methinks there is a great script right below the surface. Let me assure you that it does not read like a script made into a novel.

If you are in search of a good novel to while away a few hours before you sleep at night might I suggest Palawan?

About the Author

C.D. Williams was born in Sacramento, California.  Just after he turned seventeen, he forged his parent’s names on the permission forms and enlisted in the U.  S.  Coast Guard.  During the next twenty-seven and one half years, Williams received extensive technical training, completed his formal education, served on four ships and traveled to many parts of the world. Williams has ventured above the Arctic Circle and walked the streets of Bangkok, Thailand.  He served in Vietnam in 1967.  From 1969 to 1971 he was the medical corpsman assigned to an isolated U. S. Coast Guard station on Palawan Island in the Philippines.

When Williams retired from the service he was a Chief Warrant Officer.  His last duty assignment was, Chief, Health Services Branch with the Seventeenth Coast Guard District, in Juneau, Alaska.  He received eighteen medals and awards during his career including the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Coast Guard Achievement Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
After leaving the Coast Guard, Williams remained in Alaska where he took a job as Risk Manager with the local municipal government.  After retiring from that position he became a licensed independent insurance adjuster, traveling throughout Southeastern Alaska, investigating casualty claims.  In 1994 Williams and his wife Maripi decided to move to a warmer climate and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada.  In Las Vegas Williams worked as a Realtor until 2002 when he decided to pursue his ambitions as a writer.  He studied creative writing under Robert Cawley at the College of Southern Nevada before writing his first novel Palawan. Since then he has completed a short story SOS Rescue at Sea and is working on both a second novel and his memoir.
