About the Book

Happiness happens when you least expect it.  It’s that moment where you feel pure joy for what you are experiencing and you forget that there is a world of expectations and definitions out there.  For in this moment, you are at one with your soul.

Inside these pages is a refreshing look at the way we define ourselves in this crazy world.  It’s all in the way you look at it. Okay, maybe we are all crazy in our own wonderful way, but we may as well have some fun while we are here.

About the Author

I live on Lord’s Point, just east of Mystic, Connecticut, on the shore of Long Island Sound.  When we are not boating, we are dreaming about it.  We could move to a warmer climate.  However, having grown up in New England, we believe summer just isn’t summer unless you have been through a blustery, snowy, brutally cold winter.  I am a true New Englander, complete with long-standing traditions and values.   I am also a free-spirited thinker who can imagine the sun is blue and the sky is green over rolling hills of lavender.

My entrepreneurial spirit started back when I was twelve.  I made macramé plant hangers and walked door to door to sell them.  From designing cross-stitch to Victorian style deck chair slipcovers, I was forever dreaming, forever creating, forever promoting my latest invention, and forever placing myself on the edge of rejection.  All of this was, of course, on the side of maintaining a “real” job.  The turning point happened when I immersed myself in crystal jewelry design and made the following Freudian slip:  “On the side of my jewelry business, I’m a bank manager.”

With my faithful intuition and degree in psychology, I knew this to be a sign that I was never going back.  Fate stepped in, and in a matter of weeks, an opportunity beckoned me to open a store in downtown Mystic.  Soon after, my husband, Glen, joined me in the full operation of the store.  He saw I was having too much fun to have it all to myself.  Our store is named “Ship & Shimmer”, a unique mix of nautical and crystal.  I tell people I think there is magic inside these four walls.  It must be the hopes and dreams and laughter that fill the air every day.
