About the Book

Now……………..

For the description of this poetic compilation,

Not the typical collection that you’ll find every day in,

Your local bookstore,

More,

Than stray thoughts and emotions released on paper through pen,

These poems all touch on the relation between women and men,

Boy and girl, how we interact in every day life,

We’re so different it seems we fight,

Each other,

Fighting against what we want so much each other,

Thus the title “Boy versus Girl” but these poems do not suggest that we are totally opposed to one another,

We are not, but our differences sometimes paint a picture that depicts us in the ring going round for round,

Each seemingly desperately going for the knockout but in reality deep down,

Inside both desire to throw the fight and hug,

But even within arms neither one will lose the gloves,

Because the mingling of,

Differently designed minds,

Will encounter conflict from time to time,

Both minds are encrypted but neither has the decryption key,

So we are challenged to decode the best way we know how through primitive techniques,

This is poetry that won’t take days to interpret,

It is very clear and concise you won’t get lost in the words with,

No clue,

Of where the rhyme is taking you,

But you may uncover a new,

Aspect each time you read through,

This book will allow many to see on paper their own experiences and feelings,

Some of it is fiction but all of it talks about real things,

About the Author

John has always had an appreciation for the arts; he was fascinated by music and  lyrical content even as a toddler  in church.  John has always enjoyed any opportunity to be creative, and writing  gave him that opportunity. When John was in the sixth grade he looked forward to “writer’s workshop” once a week; something that his sixth grade teacher came up with that gave students an opportunity to share their writing with fellow classmates.  This is where John first realized his talent; his classmates always enjoyed his work even when he himself did not think that it was all that great and did not put much effort into it.

John was fascinated by poetry in high school; he wrote many poems during that time but did not start saving his work until years later.  He was recognized as a young author in high school and received an award for his work at the young authors’ conference.    After high school and after playing collegiate football for two years  at Savannah State University John joined the United States Air Force, worked as an electronic warfare systems technician, finished college, and served in Operation Enduring Freedom (where he wrote the poem “Loves Beginning”) deploying only eleven days after the September 11th terrorist attacks. While in the military John wrote many poems and shared them with his comrades who praised his work and inspired him to start saving his creations. Most of his poetry up to this point in his life has to do with love and relationships; probably because his heart is still in search of ‘The One’, his soul mate.  John got the idea of compiling “Boy versus Girl” while visiting his cousin in prison who is also a poet. During visits they would share poetry with each other; this inspired John to compile the book “Boy Versus Girl”.   Some of the poems in the book had previously been written as far back as eleven years before John ever thought of compiling a book, but the bulk of the poems where written over the course of eight months spanning 2004-2005.  During those months John spent hours thinking and writing, all while working 7am to 4pm weekdays, pursuing a Master’s degree fulltime, and maintaining a  relationship.  But now his project is complete and ready to present to you…   ……….enjoy.
