About the Author
I am Saimon Hassan Ali, born on The majority of the population in Jalawla are Arabs but we are a Kurdish family. My father’s job led us to live in Jalawla. I wanted so much to complete my education there but my life was so difficult because Saddam Hussain was Arab and he showed favouritism to Arabs and he was very bad for the Kurds. Persecuting Kurds was very easy because of Saddam Hussain. I am from a Kurdish family and from the beginning they wanted us to learn the morals and characteristics of the rule of Saddam Hussain. Neither my father nor I accepted that situation; therefore I was compelled to leave my family, my friends and my country. While I was living in Jalawla and because of my age, I was called for military service. I joined the military service and I served for a long period of time. My father attempted to rescue me. To get me released from the army, therefore, he paid much money as an exemption fee for my release. This was done and I came home. Because of Saddam Hussain who was very cruel, oppressive and a bloodsucker, my life from childhood and the life of many others was miserable. Everyone likes to have a joyful life with one’s own family; therefore when I left home my parents were crying a lot and I was the same. During my journey to reach a safe country, I passed through different countries and I suffered starvation, tiredness, and difficulties. I hope not to see ever again that miserable and unpleasant life which I had during my childhood and during the time of doing my military service.
