March 21: New York City, NY. This is truly a peculiar place. The natives speak of a rather Big Apple, but Polo and I have only spotted apples of quite the ordinary sort. It certainly makes you wonder how a people so confused about foodstuffs can invent something like the ‘hamburger.’
We need to put the produce problem aside, however, as we are searching for something called a ‘hot dog’. It sounds like quite a frightful dish and I may have to step in and deal with this less than civilized situation.
Apparently, hot dogs are being sold by a large number of street vendors. If this is true, we will soon be heading back home to present Her Majesty with Montagu’s brilliant sandwich.
PS: The so-called 'dogs' were not as hot as anticipated.

About the Author
Jay Sopp, the illustrator and creator of Penny & Polo, was doodling long before he could walk. It is in fact rumored that his first words were: “Get me a brush. I need to capture this light. The light, man, the light!” Jay has worked in the interactive entertainment industry for well over a decade and has numerous top-selling children’s titles under his belt. He is an avid student of all the art masters, from Vermeer to Chuck Jones, and a child at heart.
The writers Ken Cursoe and Ann-Kathrin Halvorsen, published authors in their own right, had to pull out all the stops for Penny & Polo's latest adventure to do Jay's amazing illustrations justice. Their pens are still smoking!
