Bad News!

“Girls, are you ready to go to the zoo?” asked their parents.

Rushing through the house, Robin said, “Yes, yes we’re ready to go.”

“I’m ready, too.” said April.

“Okay then, let’s go.”

The sisters jumped in the car.

“You know what, Mom and Dad? I can’t wait to see the giraffes. Their necks are taller than me,” stated April.

“Guess what animal I want to see?” asked Robin.

“Oh, I don’t know, maybe the penguins?” said the dad.

“No,” said Robin.

“What about the camels?” Robin’s mother asked.

“No, they smell funny, said Robin.

“All the animals smell funny at the zoo, silly,” said Robin’s sister, April.

Their mother and father had a slight grin on their faces.

“Stop it, April. I want to see the flamingos, because pink is my favorite color; and peacocks, because their feathers look like a giant fan with eyes; and I want to see the polar bears, because when they stand, they’re taller than a man on stilts,” said Robin. “And you know what else I want to see?” asked Robin.

“Let me guess: everything,” said Robin’s mother.

“Yes, Mom, you’re right, everything.”

They arrived at the zoo. There were so many people there, because it was the zoo’s fortieth anniversary. The zoo also was celebrating the arrival of the two new panda bears, Josie and Josh. With all of the pushing and shoving April and Robin got separated from their parents.

“Where’s Mom and Dad?” asked April.

“I don’t know. They were right on the side of us, now they’re gone,” said Robin. “Look, April free hot dogs, peanuts, soda, and cotton candy,” said Robin.

The zoo was giving away free snacks that day.

“Let’s get some snacks and then look for Mom and Dad,” said Robin. The girls loaded up on treats while preparing to look for their parents. “Hey, April, why don’t we look at the alligators for a second, and then we’ll look for Mom and Dad,” said Robin.

“All right, but just for a second.”

They walked over to the alligators, and then all of a sudden, a deep voice said, “Hot dogs are my favorite.”
