Anticipation is a Liar
Burning trees to the ground, his thinking is like a forest fire.
Entering the room confused, not sure what to do whom to meet.
A car without legs, a heart that sometimes may tire.
He fell down like a stop sign running round the streets.
All that is wanted is the need for the truth.
But his rendering is like an audience leaving before it''s over.
Will he ever be able to wait long enough to find out the proof?
Like a beast, speaking too soon is his uncooked meat to devour.
Foresight or hindsight there''s no telling which.
He doesn''t employ them, but he does know they''re there.
Expectations so high that he can''t find his niche.
Like a child his anxious actions precede every dare.
But now he can''t help but take comfort in the signal for distress.
Wallowing in self-pity, wondering why everything has become such a mess.
His skin like his message was as phony and quick as it was shed.
But it now may be too late; any new ideas are like an opening, on the side of his head.
Caution was but a solemn trick that he did not once play.
Leaping the gun without hoplite expectations is like awaking to a clock that hasn''t been wound.
Not knowing the actions that his consequences did pay.
His past is like a tree that won''t let him down.
The future was only a passenger in his ship of destiny.
But he couldn''t wait any longer; there was no time as right to foresee.
Relying on fate, he set sail in hope of falsehood''s mutiny.
But the passenger suggested otherwise, "there will be other ways to leave".
A stitch in time is all he is compared to, or assumed to like or as.
To him life is a game that''s already been played.
Awaiting the question to the answer, which he already has.
But to him learning is a house that''s already been made.
So far what''s next will always be so very close to away.
And his outlook of hope became a torn flag that once did sway.
For it is in needs of dire that there can be no such thing as friendly fire.
After all, it is because of him that anticipation became the liar.

About the Book
This book is a collection of poems that I have been compiling over the last twelve years. I began the book in 1993, and finally completed it in 2004. The poems are not entirely autobiographical but do include a large amount of myself in them. There is reality that is masked and fiction that is realized. The reader can judge which is which. The majority of the poems are one page creations with a focus more on originality rather than structure. Although many of the poems do experiment with differing rhyme sequences and poem types, the emphasis is on creating something that is different and in my own style.
Originally, I was just writing for my own pleasure and satisfaction. However, after several years, I started to feel that I would like to publish the poems as one book. I wrote a few at a time when I was feeling inspired. I never wrote unless I had the creative itch, and had what I thought was a good enough idea. I hope that the reader will enjoy at least some of these ideas and not judge the rest too harshly. I was never trying to impress anyone but myself.
