My Father A small man came from across the blue To see what this land had for me and you. It seemed so quiet and peaceful then Decided to be one of its men Toiled very hard through night and day In a small shop with little pay. As time went on he did progress And had a shop his own no less Hats were cleaned and blocked with care For various heads, bald or full of hair Shoes were shined so very black To tunes of cloths till time to hit the sack His wife and family were his pride Who gave him love and were always at his side A man who enjoyed every moment of the day So quick and eager in what he would say This was a man who couldn’t be another This indeed was my own father. aharalamos

About the Book
Only an Open Heart is a collection of poems and artwork by Anne Haralamos and her grandson Peter. The poems are inspired by Anne's great love for God, family and life. The artwork is matched up seamlessly with the poems and features works created in oil paint, oil pastels, ink, and watercolor. The artwork includes Peter’s modern pieces as well as ones completed while he was still in high school.
About the Author
Anne Haralamos grew up in Washington DC playing in the parks, listening to music and singing in the church choirs. She loves music, singing and writing. She has been an important part of the St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church ever since the day she began attending service there. She is a venerable and well-respected member of the Greek organization named “The Daughters of Penelope,” which is the women’s group of the AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) family. As a member of the local chapter in Washington, DC, she has participated in many philanthropic, educational and cultural activities.
