The taxi cab ride home was warm and easy. I looked at the meter it said ten dollars. It began slowing down as it neared my high-rise building. I handed the cab driver ten bucks over the front seat and said to him, “keep the change.” I opened the back door of the taxi. The wind is brisk outside. “Oops, I forgot about making dinner.” I needed some items from the grocery store before turning in for the night. I entered Carducci Brothers Grocery Store on North Avenue and Clark Street. I was buying some fresh salmon, Idaho baking potatoes, and Iceberg lettuce for dinner. After dinner I was looking forward to curling up with a good book about lovers and going to sleep. I had to be up early tomorrow to meet Cynthia at Hydro-Glow gym. After I pick out all of the groceries that I needed, I approached the checkout line in the store. I notice Mr. Carlucci who is packing groceries. I adored Mr. Carlucci. When I first moved into the building, Mr. Carlucci had quickly become my best friend and useful neighborhood guide. Mr. Carlucci had a well-meaning spirit about him. He knew where everything was located and he enjoyed helping me out by telling me where to go and where not to go in Chicago. Mr. Carlucci is an elderly gentlemen and it showed in his heavily lined face with his wrinkled hands, puffy blue veins that were slightly unsteady as he placed groceries in the bags. He looked tired around his eyes, but he brightened up delightfully whenever he saw me. "Hey my-a little-a S-h-a-r-d-i-a," Mr. Carlucci said when he saw me near the front of the store.
