Reading is certainly a mental exercise, and this book is meant to be exactly that—an exercise of, and for, the mind! Getting straight to the point, it is written so that you—the reader—can realize the mystical experience and come to know the mystical state—ultimate reality -- for yourself. Throughout our lives, most of us are not lucky enough to understand these two extraordinary but elusive gifts. Now, you will have that chance. This book is not only to help you think, it is to help you gain insight that will enlighten you beyond anything you ever imagined possible. There has never been a logical explanation for the mystical experience—until now! Here you will find the answer to what has been an eternal human dilemma. As you progress through the book, you will notice that your thoughts may be interrupted with a new idea. A concept may not be realized immediately, or intuitively realized, hence, there is often deliberate repetition to return the reader’s mind to the book’s principal theme—to understand and experience the mystical. You are sometimes deliberately left wondering. Often, ideas are randomly placed. As you read on, you’ll notice that, at times, ideas do not quite follow. Later, they will even jump and often repeat. There are many quotes in this work that are there to establish a solid foundation supporting the ideas presented. However strong a will you have, it shall be tested! Will you read on? Of course, you always have the freedom to decide whether to continue. Where something appears difficult, you may certainly choose to skip over it; the book is written so that you can pass up what may be a difficult section for you. Chances are that later, you will probably choose to read it again. What you read about the mystical may seem unclear or even difficult, but it will almost surely clear up as you read on. You may decide that much can be challenged, as so much is when consciousness, religion, and the mystical are discussed. Fine, but remember, remember, remember that the objective here is to trigger insight; perfection is not a goal. The second person is addressed, and often, the third person. Allow the Socratic idea of uncertainty about
everything to work in a positive way for you, for truth is elusive at best. Whatever is written in this book can certainly be challenged. Let it be known again and again that the objective here is to trigger insight. Key for you, the reader, is coming to realize and to know when it is that the mind can be shifted and taken from one thought to another, to another—without your full awareness; you should look for this! Finally, you may begin to wonder what it is that those many and varied thoughts have in common. It is here you will begin to develop and enlarge your intuitive side, indispensable if you are ever to gain that most precious moment of enlightenment, and hence, ultimate reality. In a book of this kind, anything can be questioned, so feel free to challenge, because throughout—no matter what else—it is your mind that is benefitting. In reading this work you are in for a unique ride on a cerebral roller coaster with many insights. Will you become aware of when your mind shifts from thought to thought? You should begin to wonder when the mind dwells in the present and when it does not. This may be the most unusual book you have ever read. In the end, there will be for you a new beginning. By the way, you may want to allow for, and should allow for, and apply, at the very least, just a little bit of faith in the ideas suggested. Nobody will twist your arm. You will be your own best friend if you follow the ideas and directions offered. It is a choice you can make, and it is you who will be enriched. You will come to know a state of mind that has been called, the divine. Many of us are not particularly interested to read an entire book, but do care to understand and to realize the essence of what a book contains. If you are this kind of a soul, read the few pages of the presentation at the end of the book, a talk I gave at the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness, in San Diego, California, on April 4, 2007. You will find the basis, the logic and the evidence of why the mystical experience occurs.
A rainbow is depicted on the cover of this book. We have heard that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for any reader of this work may very well turn out to be the mystical experience. The rainbow? The rainbow is the recognition that analysis of familiar, obvious and known things can and will eventually lead to ultimate reality.
Let's all help make this a better world. If you find errors, or anything objectionable to you in this book, let me know.
