INTRODUCTION
After years of working in the Human Resource department of a company that has over eight hundred employees, and interviewing on average thirty people a day, I am convinced that too many people do not know how to get a job. The “how to” of getting a job is what I call the Employability Factor or the E-Factor. Having a college degree or specialized education does not necessarily mean that you will be the one that is selected. There are many companies that are willing to train the right candidate. Most people fail in their job search for a variety of reasons that include dressing unprofessionally when applying for the job, not using professional communication skills, not filling out the application fully and properly, not having a professional response to the questions asked in the interview, wanting to get paid more money than the company is willing or able to offer, or having a poor employment history.
Many times I have stopped the interview process to instruct an applicant on what they are doing wrong so that they may possibly learn from the experience and succeed in the next interview. Not many people who work in the Human Resource department of a company would take the time to give you practical instruction so that you have an opportunity succeed. They would simply give you a polite “Don’t call us we’ll call you”. However, I sincerely care about the welfare of the people who come into my office and need a job. I remember what it was like putting in applications all over town and desperately waiting for a call back. One thing that I did not know then but do fully understand now is that when there is an advertisement for “available positions”, for every position that a company is hiring for the Human Resource manager usually interviews up to fifty people per position. That means if you do not make a great first impression, your application will never be considered for a position within the company. Knowing the E-Factor is your key to success.
So how do you set yourself apart from the crowd and keep your application out of the abyss of rejects? Keep reading the book and apply the information as to what employers are looking for and looking at while you are on your job search. It will make the difference between you calling endlessly with the same old line…”I am checking on the status of my application”… and the employer actually calling to offer you a job.

About the Book
Employability Factor offers an inside look at the selection process through an employer’s perspective. The Employability Factor is a phrase coined by the author, Jill Russell, as the basis for which every employer uses to make their determination as to whom they would select for an opening in their company.
