About the Book

Medea is the classic instance of a scorned woman reacting violently to her husband’s infidelity. Her terrible acts of brutality, infanticide being the most unsettling, although dreadful, were interpreted by the ancient Greeks as natural byproducts of the inevitable cycle of conflict and vindication at work within the cosmos. Many tragic-mythological characters from Greek antiquity are often portrayed as unwitting victims of fate. The inexplicable, sublime powers of nature ultimately overthrow them, for when oppressed and violated, the cosmic forces recoil, taking all things with them to destruction.
