The Jonar Line

“I am from Nevena. A planet that you don’t know about now but you will soon become very familiar with.” The smile was now gone from Eli’s face and he became very troubled. A look of sadness came on his face that came from deep within.

I felt compassion for him and I wanted to put my arm around him and console him. It felt like heaviness had settled in our presence and I was also saddened. The smile that I had fallen in love with had left Frances’s face also.

“Eli,” my voice obviously expressed the heaviness that we all felt, “Why are you so troubled?”

Eli looked down and then to the right to where Zolar was hovering. Zolar raised his arm upward and the window that housed Eli expanded and part of it became what looked like a great illumines screen.

There appeared on the screen an Ariel view of images of mansions, all sizes, shapes, and decors moving across the screen. Then there were creatures, different sizes, shapes, and kinds flying over what looked like buildings within a city. They were then flying over beautiful wilderness landscapes such, as I had never seen before. I saw human figures that moved at the speed of thought.

“How beautiful,” said Frances with awe in her voice, “What is all this?”

“That’s Nevena.” There was a glimmer of excitement in Eli’s voice.

Zolar waved his arm again and the scene changed to that of chaos and disaster. Frances grimaced at the sight.“What happened?” she asked Eli who appeared to be overwhelmed with grief.

I put my hand on Frances’s hand. “Maybe we shouldn’t bother Eli any more, we are causing him too much pain.”

“On the contrary.” Eli spoke up; “It is for this that you are here.”

I let go of Frances’s hand and took a couple of steps closer to Eli.

“What are you saying?”

“Long ago there was rebellion and conflict in Nevena, the end result, well you saw it. Chaos and ruin.”

Again Zolar waved his arm.

There appeared on the screen the figure of another man. He was most charming and very good looking. He was witty and used his wittiness to influence people and to sway them to his way of thinking,

The scene changed and there were two figures sitting on a throne. The former being with all of his charm was standing before them. There was some dialogue, which I couldn’t here and he was banished from the throne room. From the look on his face I could tell that he was very angry.

The scene changed into what looked like thick smoke, flashes of light and what looked liked lasers and ending with fires burning. Again the throne room appeared and it was empty.

Eli’s head was bowed as if in a trance. He was perfectly still and looked as though he was unaware of his surroundings. He looked up and our eyes met.

“Why are the thrones empty?” I asked.

Zolar waved his arm and the screen disappeared.

“Reggie,” Eli said. He paused for a moment and then he continued. “We are facing a very evil advisory.

“Who is he and why is he so evil?” I was searching for understanding’

“At one time our advisory lived peacefully among the inhabitants of Nevena. He was the king’s right hand man, He co-ruled with his majesty, a member of the Jonar line, Nevena’s line of royalty. He was known as Jonar Thas. He would rule under the authority of the king and his word was as good as the king’s He was well trusted and loved by all the inhabitants of Nevena and for good reason for he only ruled in truth and fairness and only as the king desired him to do.

“What went wrong?” I asked

“One day Jonar Thas entered the presence of the king and demanded that he be allowed to make his own decisions without the kings approval

“I have just as much wisdom as you do and I demand the same respect and authority.” The king disagreed and Jonar Thas became hostile. He was forcibly removed from the throne room and removed from the Jonar line. No one understood what caused his behavior to change like this. He was always so loyal to the king.

The king was heavely grieved by this especially having to remove him from the Jonar line. His name was changed to Thas and was sent to prison until his fate was determined.

Thas escaped before he reached the prison. Because of his charm and wittiness he was able to convince many of the inhabitance of Nevena to join him against the king. He disappeared and hasn’t been seen his disappearance.

Eli was silent. I could sence the almost forgotten rhythms that continued to pulsate through the atmosphere. The silence lingered and I began to feel uncomfortable I heard a shuffle from my side from Frances indicating that the feeling was mutual.

“Has Thas ever returned and has anyone seen him sense his escape?” she inquired.

The heaviness that was so penetrating overpowered Eli again as he began to speak.

“The throne room was found in shambles and the king and queen missing.”
