“There’s not much we can do until it gets dark, Emily may not see our lights or we would be out there now. The skies are still pretty cloud covered but the weather man says no rain tonight.”
Melissa took a long hot shower while Jody called home to check on things.
“Hello” The three year old Charles stated.
“Hey buddy, how are you doing, are you being good?”
“Hi dad. I’m good.”
“Is your brother being good?” “He sleeping.”
“Put Mrs. Ash on the line for me buddy.”
“I ate my peas and ice-cream.”
“That’s a good boy they’ll make you strong.”
“I eat like puppy on floor.”
“Are you being Scooby C?”
“Yup. I drink chocomilk in dish on floor.”
“I’ll have to scratch you behind the ears for being such a good Scooby C. and such a good boy, where’s Mrs. Ash?”
“Who is it Charles?” Mrs. Ash asked while trying to take the cream colored phone away from the talkative youngster. Putting his hand over the receiver Charles replied. “It’s my dad, we’re talking.”
And then placing an index finger over his lips, Charles was saying be quiet.
“Rackeraxe pee on sofa. I drink my bath and spit it out, windows like sun, I go potty . T.V. cartoons. Light I reach.” All of the unconnected phrases were telling a story to anyone who understood toddler talking.
Rackeraxe was close enough for Jody to understand that Charles was talking about Crackerjacks, the nickname given to Jeremy by his grand mom.
“Super honey, can I talk to Mrs. Ash now?”
“I jump on sofa go boom, I feed fish paper. I go to bed.”
“Happy at having this conversation, Jody really wanted to talk with Mrs. Ash. “Cool buddy where’s Mrs. Ash?”
“She do dishes, I help I big boy now.”
“Can you put Mrs. Ash on the phone?”
“Nope.” “Why not?” “I talking.”
“Mrs. Ash.” The child again telling her to be quiet.
“So Mrs. Ash is doing the dishes?” “Nope.” “Is she in the potty?” “Nope.” “Can you see her?” “Yup.” “Let me talk with her.” “Nope.”
Jody had had many conversations of this type with his son, he knew the outcome was going to be hearing Charles screaming away in the background.
“Charles, let me talk with Mrs. Ash please.” “Nope.”
“You can go watch cartoons now.” Jody using a sing song voice.
