the value of my presence
dims
in the smoke of the fire i lit,
but shooting pool by candlelight
is no excuse for missing pockets.
life offers more than
making holes
and digging ditches
with ladles soiled in the darkest pitches.
man hole covers conceal my eyes,
metal heavy with disguise,
if i could make one remark, one request,
may my words you consume and your soul digest.
to be spoken and content
br o ken and for rent
i really don’t care to be
one for the other
sleepingdays are near ‘cause life is too
short
and we wrestle with decisions of the superficial sort
so when i finally catch your eye
take your “face from someone else” to the grave when you die
‘cause vanity is insanity when it’s all that you’re about
and be afraid of the mirror when you’re finally climbing out
