About the Book

Various unique facts and oddities observed by the author during his employment in Saudi Arabia by Aramco (Arabian American Oil Company) in 1954 are presented, and these are contrasted to changes observed later in 1982 when he returned as a contractor. All photographs were made by the author. The style of the author is similar to that of James Burke in his TV Series “Connections” in which various topics connect to other seemingly unrelated subjects. Thus, a chapter on The Holy Land and one on the origins of the New Testament are included. Many of the topics discussed in this book—customs, contracting and government in particular—give background and insight into today’s situation in the Middle East.

“This memoir… lays a foundation for a more personal understanding of the culture and the business community in Saudi Arabia and the region.”

About the Author

In 2002, the author submitted his “13 Memories of WW-2” to the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress.  As Aramco (Arabian American Oil Company) was similar in many ways to a friendly army of occupation which builds the infrastructure of a desolate land and drags it into the modern world, this book presents similar oral history and reminiscences.

The author received a Baccalaureate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida; he also studied English History at Rewley House, Oxford University.  Most of his career has been as a Consulting Engineer, and his detailed biography can be found in the Marquis Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.  During 1963-73, in voluntary public service, he was chairman of the Jacksonville, Fla. Water Quality Control Board.  He holds 5 US patents.
