About the Book

In Love and Because of Love is an outpouring of poems written within a period of 120 days echoing the poet’s fragmented fractured world following the death of her spouse. Kathy Campbell-Barton uses the written word to express emotions of loss, fear, and frustration ultimately synonymous with love for life.

The book embodies an attempt to begin a process of self-healing that leads to radically loving.  Reflections of past experiences and relationships are articulated in a way that connects ordinary life with the spiritual.

In Love and Because of Love is an affirmation to love and a testament to abiding hope.

About the Author

In Love and Because of Love is a passionate and revealing expression of the author’s most intimate thoughts.  Kathy Campbell-Barton has composed verse and prose since the age of four.  She refers to herself as a closet poet because her work has been primarily a recording of personal thoughts throughout her life.  Her partner, artist Kent A. Barton, stimulated Kathy to compile a selection of her poetry into a book for publication. 

Losing a loved one can be a time of deep introspective reflection, and Kathy’s poems seemed to bridge the chasm between her heart and her soul.  She termed the time after Kent’s death as a revelation of “word snaps”.  120 days of writing poetry produced a family album imbued with a sense for truth and healing inspired by Kathy’s personal reflections about life’s experiences and relationships bonded by love.

Kathy lives in Salem, Oregon where she is active in peace with justice advocacy.

She actively serves the on several boards and agencies advocating for an end to nuclear weaponry and expanded health care coverage for children. 

Kathy is a public speaker and writer.  She has edited and authored a yearly Peace with Justice Advent Booklet for 13 years.
