About the Book

Joe Hadnott writes a shattering and eloquent account of one man’s experiences with egoism and direct hate from white supremacy pointed at a group of Americans who only fault is the color of their skin.  What he saw and heard from many levels of the white community, educators, law enforcement officers, businessmen and white Christians gave this young man enough mixed messages to last a life time.  Growing up in the little town of DeRidder Louisiana, Joe never felt like an American citizen.  Every time he would leave his Afrikan American neighborhood the signs were written on the walls, doors and windows, (no coloreds allowed).  Even when his mom would take him to town to buy shoes, he could not try on the shoes because only white people could try on the shoes in the shoe stores.  If it was hot downtown Afrikan American could not buy ice cream, because Blacks were not allowed to go inside of the ice cream parlor.  Yet after graduating from George Washington High School, Joe was drafted and served four years in the U. S. Military, Serving thirteen months in Viet Nam.

With his lucid blend of honesty, originality, and insight, Hadnott talks of some of today’s most complex and controversial issues.  In the chapter “If black people will lead, and Our Children,” he direct this discussion to a community that is in great demand for good community leadership.  And a people that need their men to step up and be counted.  The Black man needs to love, support and protect his family.

White supremacy may never go away but for blacks, God, Education and Economics is the only hope for equality.  Dr. Martin Luther King preached it, Mary McLeod Bethune taught it, Malcolm X fought for it, Colin Powell, Bill Cosby and Oprah Winphrey are examples of it.  When it come to defending freedom of American citizen, or illuminating the strained position of the Black and White community, Joe Hadnott will always be fair, and civil.

Written with courage, love and wisdom and a profound voice, Indignation is a book for every American.
