Winston Farrell is a performing poet and theatre artist. At present he works as the Cultural Arts officer at the Barbados Youth Service. As a creative writer and poet he won many awards in the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts in Barbados, and has had the pleasure of representing his country at the highest level. Farrell is the 2003 first prize winner of the Frank Collymere Literary Endowment Award sponsored by the Central Bank of Barbados. He also won the Prime Minister’s Award in 2002 and a joint third prize in 1999. Farrell has had two Artist/Writer in Residence at Jefferson Community in Kentucky, and participated in a Writer in Residence program at Albany State University in association with the Hudson Valley Writers guild. He also had a British Council Visitorship when he toured the U.K. enteracting with a number with a number of groups and organizations. As a performing poet he has recorded a number of works/poems on CD, and has had his work published in a number of magazines and journals, such as “Crossing Water” by the Greenfield Press, NY, Voices-Writers Collective, and Kyk-over-al, July 1991 to name a few. He has also gained the Daily News prize for poetry in the Caribbean Writer Journal.
