About the Book

Laura’s War is a nostalgic and gripping story of a soldier and his girl during World War II. It was inspired when the author re-read the letters written by the love of her life from the time they met as university students until his return from the European Theatre. The letters show the evolution of how one citizen soldier became an effective leader. Some eloquently describe the life of a First Division lieutenant at the front, some are hastily written notes on scraps of paper, and all are incorporated in this book. Laura Hoffman weaves a personal tale based on these letters, her soldier’s wartime log and her own life as a journalist during the war.

About the Author

Laura Hoffman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois where she later served an instructor of rhetoric while pursuing a master’s degree. During World War II she was a very active cub reporter and feature writer with a daily newspaper in Virginia, and quickly became a skilled journalist. Her stories received an award from the Virginia Press Association and some were published in the Washington Post. She and her husband Wayne met as students at the university and were married after the war. He became a lawyer and entrepreneur who in a long career was active in transportation enterprises and served as an executive of several large companies operating throughout the world. Laura traveled at his side and their lives were rich and rewarding.
