About the Book

Although Ben Lomond Mountain has been the same over time, during the last 150 years the family life upon it has changed dramatically.  The first European settlers on the mountain were true pioneers, having to deal with making a living, providing basic food and shelter, raising children, and keeping everyone safe for the hazards of the wilderness.  They also had to find ways to fill basic human need for companionship and community.  As the years passed, the community on Ben Lomond Mountain became known as Bonny Doon.  Some aspects of life in Bonny Doon became easier, some harder.  Here is a brief look at what we have discovered about the history of family life in Bonny Doon.

About the Author

The Ladies of Bonny Doon Club was founded in 1942 by a group of Bonny Doon women who wanted to support their community and country.  The Ladies of Bonny Doon Club started with less than a dozen women working with the Red Cross, rolling bandages for the war effort.  Now some sixty years later and over 40 members strong, they’re still giving their time, energy, efforts, and contributions to the community and country.  In 2003 a historical committee was formed to research the Bonny Doon area history and compile this information into a book to share with the community.  This committee of just 11 people have done an amazing thing, produced the first book ever written about the local history of Bonny Doon and Ben Lomand Mountain.
