(Prolog) The Mountains Behind
I have traveled many roads. Some filled with heartache, others with pain.
I let myself down, made the wrong moves; experienced life’s rain
But God saw the truth; he stripped away the wood hay and stubble
Left a shimmer of Gold; bright, shiny and free from the world’s trouble
I saw the mountains ahead; tried to clear them on my own
Had some success; cleared a few, but reached a point where I couldn’t go on
Went through the fire; fought the enemy face to face
Of course; I could not win, but thank God for his grace!
God saw fit to call my name; in the midst of the hills, I was full of shame
I had no choice but to answer the call; too tired to go on, hurt from the fall
Raised from the dead; brought back to life, no longer caught in the devils vice
I was given new strength to carry on; the old me passed, a new one born
I have a story to tell; a testimony to write about
So full of joy; forgive me if I shout
Praises to God for he is king; I come to you now ready to sing
Songs full of blessings; and offer prayers of love
Encouraging you through your mountains with love
Listen to me people of Christ; The Devil is real and he’s not nice
He comes to destroy all God has for you; here’s the secret, this is what you do
Get on your knees; give up the fight, It’s time to look only to the right
Please decide now; you are running out of time, see you on the other side
Of your mountains behind
In Jesus Name, Amen!

He was smoking something and he did not say a word to me. For what seemed like a couple of minutes, I just stood there, knowing I had better not move until I was told. I could feel my feet start to shake as he just looked at me. His mannerisms were weird to me even then. He just had an air that reeked of pure evil.
It was at this point I made a decision to speak. Nothing earth shattering, as I was very scared by now. I simply said, “You called?” It’s hard to describe what the next 3 tenths of a second were like. In that short space of time, I was able to see his face contort angrily, smoke was blown out of his nostrils and a flash of what appeared to be his right hand curl into a fist.
In an instant, I felt what seemed like the entire house come down across the top left side of my face. I saw a bright white light as I fell to the ground, then…. dark. I don’t know how long I was in that doorway.
I woke up some time later that night. There were no lights on in the house. I sat up. My head was pounding. I felt like I had been hit by a car. I made my way to a light switch and turned them on. It was eerily quite. As best as I could, I mustered one word; “mommy”… I didn’t get an answer. No one was home.
I slowly walked into the kitchen and poured myself something to drink, still not knowing exactly what happened to me. Almost robotic like, I went to my room and started to get ready for bed. I went to the bathroom and as I walked past the mirror, out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something unusual. I backed up, looked directly into the mirror and that’s when I remembered what happened. The reflection of the person looking back at me was familiar, yet altered.
