LOVE AND POLITICS

(Preview Page 1) As she continued to set up Star noticed that the Senator hadn’t responded to her, she looked up at him.  He was standing at the podium looking so handsome that she almost gasped.  She took a deep breath to take her mind off of him but it was really hard for her to hide her emotions.  “Okay Senator, lets rock and roll.”  Star said with a smile.  She began asking him

questions about the pro-life and anti-abortion issues and they worked their way through insurance propositions, workers compensation laws and then down to balancing the budget and health care.  They’d gone over all of the important issues and were now working their way through lesser priority issues when the Senator suggested that they take a break.  They were doing very well on time and had actually done a lot better without all of the staff with them, which surprised Star.  Star went to the ladies room to freshen up.  She powered her nose and put some lipstick on and began working on her hair.  She took the black velvet twist off her hair that was holding her ponytail together.  She had to laugh when she looked in the mirror and saw her reflection.  She knew then why the Senator’s wife kept calling her a little girl.  She looked like she could have been in high school with that little cheerleader ponytail style her hair was fixed in.  So she took her hair down and combed it, checked her makeup and walked down the hall to the soda machine.  She got four sodas one for each CIA agent, the Senator and one for herself.  She bought cokes for the men on the security detail and diet coke for the Senator and a strawberry soda for herself.  When Star got back up to the stage the Senator had taken off his jacket loosening his tie and pulled it off from around his neck.  He no longer looked like a person ready to debate questions from the media.  He looked relaxed and Star thought that maybe he had done enough work for one day and wanted to call it quits for the evening.  She handed him his soda and when she did his hand covered hers.  They were hot and it made a stranger contrast with the cold of the soda can almost electrifying.  Star slid her hand away from the can and from the touch of the Senator’s hand.  He looked into her eyes with those big beautiful brown eyes of his and she quickly looked away.  Her heart was starting to pound so loudly and as usual she thought that he could hear it beating because it reverberated so loudly in her ears.  She started to back away from him something told her that danger lurked.  She walked around to the opposite end of the table and opened her strawberry soda.  The Senator was drinking his diet coke and looking at her with a strange air about him.  He smiled and asked:

(Preview Page 2) “Why are you going all the way over there, come here.”  Jack’s demanding voice echoed across the stage.  “That’s okay, I just wanted to stretch my legs, that’s all.”  Star said now feeling a little shy and being very cautious. 

“And what beautiful legs they are!”  Jack said with a huge grin on his face.  He

looked like the big bad wolf and Star felt like little red riding hood.  She was wearing a two piece colorful summer island top and matching miniskirt.  It was ocean blue with designs that looked like the ocean and the red in it against her breasts looked like juicy fruit from a tropical fruit tree.  She wasn’t wearing stockings because it was so hot, but she wore high heeled pointed opened toe white pumps with the strap around the back.  They were cute and her legs looked firm and shapely in them.  The Senator walked over to her and when he got near her she walked around to the other side of the table because she smelled trouble. Star knew that the look on Jack’s face wasn’t about politics and he was so irresistible she didn’t know if she could trust herself with him. 

“Oh playing hard to get, is that it?”  Jack said.

“No Senator, just trying to keep it strictly business if you don’t mind” Star said.

“Well I do mind.”  Jack said as he walked along the other side of the table.  They

walked in a circle around the table sort of a cat and canary game and were now back in front of Star’s briefcase.  All of her notebooks, paper clips, pens that she was using to take notes and the debate questions were laid out across the table there. The cat grabbed the canary before she could fly away from him again.  Star warned him that that it wasn’t safe there if he had designs on her and from the look in his eyes he had a complete picture drawn in his head.  She warned him again that the space was too open to play around in b
