Can’t

She can take the rain
Pelting against her body
She can take the waves
Crashing over her bare feet
She can even take the emptiness
Inside her chest
What she can’t take
Is that she was so close
That she will never know what could have been
She can’t take
The unspoken words
Buzzing within her weary brain
Or the last of his words
Echoing in her wounded heart
She can’t
But, she has to

Shiver

Your rich brown eyes lock with mine.
I tremble.
The thought of my hands in your brown hair
Makes me shake.
Dreaming of your sweet lips descending,
Touching mine,
Makes me quaver.
From across the room,
I watch your every move;
Your brow wrinkles
As a smile blossoms across your beautiful face,
While your chocolate eyes dance with happiness.
My insides quake.
Then, you tell me I look good in red,
Or, your fingertips barely graze my arm,
And I melt into a puddle at your feet.
At home,
With tears of despair glittering in my eyes,
You make me shiver,
Though you are nowhere near.
The harsh reality
That you and I will never be together
Slams into my chest.
