Afraid
I have nothing more to give,
I’m afraid to die, and even more afraid to live.
Some days I laugh some days I cry,
Understanding each day hard as I try.
To pass up the little things and be a good host,
Seems to me it’s the little things that hurts the most.
If only my life was plain and simple to live,
I’d smile through each day, and be so imaginative.
Then I’d realize how much I had, to give,
And not be afraid to die of afraid to live.
Animals care
Every thought counts, every word matters,
It brings life or death served on a silver platter,
The birds of the air all matters and counts,
For food and shelter all day they haunt.
The lioness prowls attacking and feasting,
To feed her cubs before they start ceasing,
Chickens guard their chicks with a beak that’s pointed,
Viciously attacking if threatened and taunted.
Humans have the ability to love protect and care,
Yet they use their powers to hurt cheat and instill fear.
Maybe they should take lessons from the birds and lioness,
Then hopefully they’d learn to love, be fair, share and caress.

Born in a little village under the Carribbean sun in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Shanaz Deonarine poet and artist migrated to the United States in hope to fulfill her dreams and pursue a career, her life has been one of many extra ordinary events, her poems are based on her experiences and daily struggles, truly they would touch the heart revealing much about her and the human thoughts and desires, raising a level of consciousness that causes one to ponder on the many mysteries of life and the strong desire to love.
