Three little girls are planning a
special luncheon. It would be held in
our backyard under our large grape arbor.
How we worked with details. We would borrow one of Mother’s not-the-best
tablecloths to spread on the grass.
Fresh picked tomatoes and green
peppers were harvested from our garden and grapes, of course, for dessert. Our neighbor’s child brought the peanut
butter and mayonnaise. (We never had
these at our house!) We brought
Mother’s homemade bread.
We had some chipped and cracked
dishes in our playhouse to use. Kool-Aid
washed it all down!
What fun! Not a TV in sight! We sang school songs, got sleepy, stretched out and had a nap.
Next thing, Mom was calling “Come
on, girls ...time to clean up your picnic and come to supper.”
You see, we knew how to PLAY!!
Tuesday was a typical
Walking in our yard and assessing
progress of my flower plants, I decided that a sprinkling can was needed for a
gentle man-made showering until tender stems had grown taller and strong.
Searching a local department
store garden center I noticed I was the only customer in the large gardening
supplies room, besides cashiers. I
pushed my cart down the first aisle and it seemed I heard something whisper to
me to run! WHAT’S THAT? Off to my right was the shelf area that held
heavy bags of fertilizer, bottles of gardening chemicals and insect dusts.
Halfway down that aisle I heard a vague creaking noise.
A still small voice from out of somewhere said
a little louder, “Run, run!” My first
thought was ‘How silly you would look tearing down an aisle at top speed’! I entered the aisle where the creaking noise
was coming from. There it came again...this
time like thunder in my ears, RUN. RUN!
I felt an urgency and so I ran ...really ran! Just as I cleared the aisle, reached the
front of the store, all the shelves, wall (concrete blocks), paneling, and
products crashed to the aisle I had just fled.
Toxic fumes from the mixtures
would have burned me! The wall itself
would have crushed me..shelving
posts could have punctured me!
The fire department was called to clear away
the fumes. Clerks were very solicitious. “ “Was I hurt?” All I
could do was repeat over and over, above my pounding
heart, “I am so glad I followed directions and ran!” They thought I was in shock, talking out of
my head and so they gave me my sprinkling can and I went home.
One more time that still small
voice saved me from harm!

About the Book
The purchaser and readers of this

own at times. The author met and married
a military man at 18. The
round-the-world and through the states travel began in 1941. Having lived in 30 houses and apartments, she
could pack and be gone in one day.
Retired in 1964, her experiences all helped the author design the 5000
ft. house they live in now. Four quality raised and moral children and 62 years married tells
a lot about life.
This ‘author lady’ runs a
thriving business full time. She designs
and makes stained glass. sews, writes, an interior
decorator, and a pastor’s wife.
She has done almost all of it and
she has years yet to go--.
After all, she is only 81! Open
the cover and come on in!
About the Author

to the Auditor of a railroad company.
