About the Book
The book spans a period from
World War II to the present, and touches upon the wheeling and dealing of
survivors of troubled times, and heartbreak along the way. It reveals secrets
of colorful personalities whose achievements far overshadow personal shortcomings.
Although a fictionalized version,
many of life's realities, as well as wartime atrocities, are enlivened as real
people interact and attempt to solve problems. Memories of World War II are
recalled: the great sugar shortage and subsequent trafficking; the holocaust
and lost identities; heirless assets of the doomed; and other inhumane con
games. More recently recalled, is the debacle and collapse of the entire
savings and loan industry. The concept that "all is fair in love and
war" is stressed. And finally, the world moves on to new conflicts and
changing times.
