What the Church Does Not Want You to Know

Could it be possible that the Church is concealing something?  Has the message changed as well as the purpose?  Is the church now what was intended when it was founded?  The answers to these and other questions about that institution are attempted in this book.

The church's emphasis, to many, seems to be a concern for the things that we ought to do, and what we should be.  Congregations come away wondering if they can be equal to the demands and feel down hearted.  Robert Louis Stevenson said, "I went to church today and was not depressed."  The church's message becomes positive, meaning that members are positively right or positively wrong. 

A correct definition of church may not seem possible since, there are such a wide variety of churches.  Also, the meaning of the word has many implications.  The scope of this writing is to consider just two churches and to define them.  This can be done in a simple way.  It has often been said that there is a true church and a false one.  True or false, to what purpose these two exist are the larger questions and where can authority on the subject being found?  Many that attend church regularly on their day of worship come to realize that the message is known very well.  Those in the pews are aware, before the sermon, of what the preacher will tell them, and become more interested in the illustrations than in any theological view.

Only the Christian religion has church, and its inception came from just one person.  It is his purpose that becomes the authority.  This can be best known by the book that speaks of him.  If the communication he gave to those that followed him is reliable, all questions about what the church should be, and what it has become, is obvious.

Unlike many exhaustive writings about him, and about the Bible, the attempt that follows is to present comments in a simple fashion.  This is a learning process.  Certain themes are repeated several times through out the book.  This is intentional. In this way important thoughts can be recognized, and emphasized, as they apply in many different situations.  It is the wish that this book be read for easy and clear meaning.  For this reason, most references to Bible passages do not appear as notation of Bible chapter, and verse, following an explanation in the text.  An appendix at the end of the book gives Scriptural notations for each chapter, to make known the accuracy of what is stated.  In this way, the material can be read rapidly.
