About the Author

Gerard R. Case served from 1951- 1955, during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class.  Upon discharge from the service he attended college (Pratt Institute) 1955-1959, and became a commercial artist.  He worked for Art Studios and for Paramount pictures where he was an animator on cartoons.  Since 1962 he has been a scientist and author, having written almost 100 scientific papers, monographs and five books on the subject of Natural History.

This is Mr. Case's first book about World War II.

 

James A. Pounds served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1942-1953.  During World War II he entered into combat in New Guinea in January 1944 and participated in amphibious assault landings throughout New Guinea and New Britain.  His unit, Company "A" of the 593rd Engineer Boat & Shore Regiment of the Third Engineer Special Brigade staged at Morotai Island, in the Dutch East Indies, for the D-Day H-hour assault landing at Balikpapan, Borneo with the Australian Army.
