Every good proposal has a title
and title page. The title should be
short, catchy and descriptive.
Everything you write will be wrapped around your title. If you can intrigue your audience in the
beginning, you can usually keep them to the end. The title page usually
consists of:
- Name of the organization
- Project director and/or contact person
- Contact address and numbers
- Date of submission
- Request amount
As we progress through the
following steps, you will see why your research was so important. ALWAYS keep in mind the specific interests
and goals of the funder and follow the guidelines to the letter. You are writing to win them over, grab
their heartstrings and show them you can help them make a difference with your
project.
The well-written proposal answers
questions important to the funder.
Although there is no order in which you organize your proposal, the most
common and logical order is as follows:
WHO – WHAT – WHY – WHEN – WHERE – HOW - HOW MUCH
For example purposes, the above
format will be used with the following mini grant request, which is highlighted
and underlined in BOLD print.
The project will be titled, “Feeding
Bodies and Minds”.

About the Author
Heidi J. Kramer is a consultant and expert in writing, administrating, and awarding grants. Her career in the grant industry began two decades ago, where she began successfully working with government, public and private grants.
Her 20-year history includes working on several boards and grant funding committees, both public and private. In her position as director with a private foundation she reviews grant requests, makes recommendations for funding, guides grant writers to additional funding sources, and collaborates with other grant funders.
One of Heidi’s driving forces is to help others. When asked why she wrote this workbook, Heidi stated that, “This workbook was developed through several years of research, training numerous individuals and teaching workshops on how to write, obtain and properly administer grants.
